The I3A Institute has several research areas of interestcovered by the main lines of each division.
The Biomedical Engineering Division is interested in technologies helping to improve human health and quality of life. In particular, this division is involved in the development of new biomaterials and tissue engineering technology; and the modelling of the human body with a special interest in the Virtual Physiological Human (VPH) and biomechanics. Finally, there is great interest in developing new technologies and instruments applied to the health issues of disabled or elderly people.
The ICT Division coordinates and conducts studies and research programs in the vast field of new information and communication technologies and their interrelationship with the knowledge society. The areas of interest in this area are advanced computing technologies and smart embedded systems; infrastructures, technologies and services for communications; audio-visual technologies and multimedia; advanced interfaces and robots.
Research in the Process and Recycling Division focuses on engineering solutions for the enhancement of the environment and sustainability. In order to achieve such a goal, the P&R Division devotes its efforts to the relation between energy and sustainable sources, hydrogen technologies, the minimization and recycling of wastes, and agrofood technologies.
Finally, the new Industrial Technologies Division intends to explore key enabling technologies for the development of the Factories of the Future, with an interest in electronics (power, communication & microelectronics), photonics, logistics, transport, new materials, structural design, advanced fabrication & metrology. Moreover, the I3A is also concerned with technologies and knowledge related to several key R&D initiatives as well as issues such as innovation, entrepreneurship and technology transfer policies.
