Multiphoton microscope

Leica Multiphoton Microscopy DIVE 8

Multiphoton microscopy is an advanced fluorescence microscopy technique that uses the simultaneous absorption of two or more lower energy photons (usually in the infrared range) to excite fluorophores in the sample. This allows localised excitation only in the focal plane, reducing phototoxicity and out-of-focus damage, as well as improving penetration into thicker tissues. It is especially useful in biological and medical research, as it allows three-dimensional imaging of living tissue with minimal invasiveness and great depth.

List of measurements that can be performed with their operating ranges and type of samples:

  • Second harmonic
  • Half-life time studies
  • Reconstruction 3D
  • I only use Aivia AI image analysis software.
