AI research projects within the National Programme for Experimental Research and Development from the National Plan for Scientific, Technical, and Innovation Research 2024-2027.

PhD Objectives

The successful candidate will work on compiling the most comprehensive set of observational air quality data ever assembled in Spain, harmonizing regulatory and scientific measurements with satellite data. The role involves developing AI models for missing data imputation, anomaly detection, and meteorological normalization—essential steps to improve the quality and consistency of long-term environmental records.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sciences or Engineering.
  • Must be currently enrolled in, admitted to, or eligible for admission to a PhD program by the contract formalization date (see conditions).
  • Technical Skills: Experience in computing/programming.
  • Language: Strong written and spoken communication skills in English.
  • Academic Record: A strong academic background will be highly valued (minimum GPA of 6.5/10 or equivalent).
  • We seek for highly motivated individuals with a strong interest in scientific research

What We Offer

  • 4-year full-time contract.
  • Approximate annual gross salary of €20,000.
  • You will join an interdisciplinary team of 4 PhD students, 3 postdocs, and >15 senior researchers/professors from three leading institutions in air quality research: Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), IDAEA-CSIC (Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research), and the University of Zaragoza.
  • Direct access to the computing infrastructure of MareNostrum, Spain’s most powerful supercomputer.
