The I3A annually awards the “I3A Distinction” to those who stand out for their links with the Institute, for their support to research groups, transfer to the company or for the visibility of their research.

This year, the Association of Parents of Children with Cancer of Aragon (Aspanoa), which will receive this recognition as a token of gratitude for its work in support of families and children undergoing a cancer process and for its continued commitment to science and research, has been highlighted for its commitment to research.

The association began its collaboration with the Engineering Research Institute of Aragon (I3A) two years ago. Through the Aspanoa Chair of the University of Zaragoza, four actions have been launched in which five groups of the I3A work together, with the focus on improving the quality of life of children with cancer and their families, both in the field of care and in other essential aspects of their lives such as education or their social life.

Last year, Aspanoa helped 210 children with cancer in the different stages of the disease and 432 relatives of the affected child, most of them being their parents and siblings. At present, the Association finances nine research projects against childhood cancer, all of them developed in Aragonese laboratories, with a total investment of 330,000 euros.

The “I3A Distinction” will be presented during the VI Jornada del I3A y de la XIV Jornada de Jóvenes Investigadores e Investigadoras on Wednesday, June 25 at the Bentancourt Building of the School of Engineering and Architecture (EINA) of the Ebro River Campus at 6:00 pm.
